The Journey

There are days when I’m tempted to think: “Look how far I’ve come!” But then I stop myself because I realize, man, I’m more of a mess now than I was two years ago – I need Jesus now more than I ever did! And not because I’m ‘sinning’ more (though I very well might be… I don’t exactly have a measuring stick for this). No, we’ve been conditioned to think that change is simply the act of crossing off sins. I don’t do this or that anymore, so I’m good… NOT. We’ve come to believe that God’s primary focus is to get us to stop sinning. Really God’s primary focus is to change our hearts – and man, is mine a wreck! The Bible says out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks – whatever is in your heart directs your words. And Paul tells us that our…

What are your thoughts on celibacy?

I think I’ve touched on my views of celibacy here and there, but I probably haven’t ever explicitly stated what they are. What does celibacy look like? Well it differs from person to person. I’ve seen couples who don’t even hold hands before marriage. Yes, that may seem crazy to you and me, but the Bible says if your right arm causes you to sin, chop it off, because it’s useless to you. When deciding to be celibate, you have to analyze yourself, look at past experiences, and learn from the habits/wrong choices that caused you to get into sexual situations. If you wanted to bone your ex every time he/she held your hand, then yea- Maybe you shouldn’t hold hands lol. If being alone with a guy or girl always led to something, make sure you’re alone together as little as possible. If the moment you kissed, hands started…

“Come, see for yourself!”

I have always found immense comfort and understanding in the lives of Jesus’ disciples. While Jesus himself may honestly sometimes be hard for my human mind to relate to (being the son of God and God himself and all), the disciples I REALLY get. I get their fears. I get their doubt. I get their hesitations, their enthusiasm and their over-zealousness. They were doing back then what we are essentially trying to do today – follow Jesus! And so in looking at what Jesus taught them, what he asked them to do, what they did (or didn’t do), and what they were inspired by the Holy Spirit to do, we find a simple understanding of the very basics of what it means to be a follower of Christ. Last night I found myself in John 1 – as I always find myself in the gospels when I’m trying to get…

Being Patient With the Promise

Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours. – Mark 11:24 Yet I am confident I will see the Lord’s goodness     while I am here in the land of the living.  Wait patiently for the Lord.     Be brave and courageous.     Yes, wait patiently for the Lord. – Psalm 27:13, 14  Have you ever asked for something from God, but given up somewhere along the way? Or He’s promised you something, but it’s NOOOOOWHERE in sight? Like not even a glimpse of it?  It’s like those faith-deadlines –  when you tell God, I need this by then, or I’m trusting you for that promise by that time, and so you start praying and investing and seeking God’s direction towards it? Or God tells us, ‘I’m going to do this’, and we’re just waiting expectantly? Whether it’s a successful project, or a degree, or a baby, or a job, or…

When People Don’t Give Back

I have a really big heart for helping people and giving. And it can be hard sometimes because people don’t always reciprocate the help/care you give- Like, a good nine times out of ten they don’t- And the human response to kindness and love and care not being reciprocated is to shut it off. We begin to feel used and decide we’re better off not being so kind and caring only for ourselves and our needs because no one else will look out for us in similar fashion. But anytime I face a situation where I have the desire to help someone that is wrought with a fear of feeling/being used or ‘shortchanged’ again, I just remember that giving is WHO I AM. It’s who God created me to be. It was no mistake that while all my siblings got Bible names, I was named Eudora Leonore- ‘Gift of Light’….

Could you get a help me with some bible chapters or verses About how to get over a guy you really really need to get over? Lol. Okay memory verses about loneliness will do I think

I actually laughed out loud when I read this. Girl, the age old struggle of getting over someone. I am so skilled in this art – maybe even TOO skilled haha. I haven’t been in too many relationships but I am the girl who is in a committed relationship with you in my mind and you don’t even know it, so I’ve had a lot of pseudo breakups and opportunities to have to get over people LOL. But here’s the best advice I can give you: Nine times out of ten, it’s not you, it’s God. We come out of bad breakups feeling alone and like something is wrong with us – but when you are positioning yourself with the will of God, some things will just naturally fall away and be beyond your control. Some things you will have to let go of yourself to make room for God….

Let’s Talk About Relationships

Cue eye roll. You know why I rarely blog about relationships, and waiting for God’s best for you, and how to be in a godly relationship and all that wonderful stuff Christian women eat up like crazy???? Well, other than the fact that I have the patience of a two-year old,  I’m single, and I’m totally unqualified to tell people how to practically live out a God-first relationship? lol Because the devil has spent so much time deceiving women into believing that their value to the Kingdom of God is dependent on them getting married/having a husband. It’s almost as if there’s this pervasive belief in the Church that a woman is not of value to the Church or legitimate in ministry until she has a man by her side- or that God’s only plan for women is to marry them off to provide support to godly men. I’m sorry,…

Speech is Not Free

In the age of social media where anyone and everyone has the platform to air their views, I don’t think the first amendment has ever been more used… Or abused. People take the opportunity to justify anything they say by their constitutional right to say whatever they want. And so journalists rip apart politicians. Politicians tear down opponents. Artists mock religion. Religion chastises and criticizes those they deem to be outside the realm of salvation. People take the liberty they’ve been afforded to say whatever they want with no regard for the impact that ‘free speech’ has on the life of another human being. But free speech is not free. The Bible says life and death is in the power of the tongue. God spoke the world and all creation into existence with words. He spoke and things were made, the sick healed, people exalted, or the nations struck down…
