So skip the fact that I’m completely in love with Andra’s voice – this song is everything. Based on Oswald Chamber’s quote, ‘We must build our faith not on fading lights, but on the Light that never fails‘, Andra reminds me of what John tells us in 1 John 2:15-17 :

Do not love the world [of sin that opposes God and His precepts], nor the things that are in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world—the lust and sensual craving of the flesh and the lust and longing of the eyes and the boastful pride of life [pretentious confidence in one’s resources or in the stability of earthly things]—these do not come from the Father, but are from the world. The world is passing away, and with it its lusts [the shameful pursuits and ungodly longings]; but the one who does the will of God and carries out His purposes lives forever

It’s OK to have desires, and to work and pray towards them, but too often it’s easy to find ourselves swayed by the ones that are fleeting and outside of God’s plan and purpose for us. It’s so easy to chase the ‘fading lights’ – things that don’t last in the grand scheme of things – when we should be chasing the only One who does. This song has been of so much encouragement to me when it seems like I’m the only one not chasing after what everyone else is, and has encouraged me to stand firm in the faith that God will fulfill His promises and purpose for me.
